The Texas Pioneer Foundation provided the bulk of funding needed to send Carpenter Hill Elementary School’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) – Saturn V science project into space. Michelle Coburn, the foundation’s director of programs, handed over a check for $17,500 to Hays CISD Education Foundation Board members Joe Hernandez and Sherri Tibbe; Education Foundation Executive Director Angie Mendez was also on hand for the presentation. The money will be used to underwrite the majority of costs for the school’s exciting inclusion in the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program. Other contributing partners include the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space ($2,500) and Texas State University ($1,500). Fifth-grade STEM - Saturn V Program teacher Lori Shultz, joined by her fellow STEM teachers, thanked the Texas Pioneer Foundation and the other sponsors for their contributions. (Courtesy Photo)
