Same ol’ biz, but in new building

by SANDRA GRIZZLE

For 30 years the members of Onion Creek Senior Citizens, Inc., have gathered in March for an annual membership meeting and again this year they will meet on Thursday, March 7 in the wonderful new senior center. The business meeting will start at 9 a.m., in which three members will be elected to serve on the board of directors for three-year terms. Also on the ballot is an amendment to the by-laws changing the membership meeting from the second Thursday in March to the first Thursday in March.

There will be a silent auction as well as a live auction following the business meeting. The live auction will start at 10:15 a.m. with Leroy Opiela serving as auctioneer. Some of the many items in the auction are: quilts, antique glassware, pottery, art, gift certificates, home baked cakes, pies and cookies. Following the auction, a home cooked beef and chicken fajita lunch will be served at 12:15 a.m. for a cost of $8 per plate.  Proceeds will benefit the endeavors of the senior citizens organization to provide a place for seniors to gather for activities. Come out on March 7 and support the seniors and have a good time, too. The new center is located at 420 Bartons Crossing in Buda, just off FM 2770, also known as Jack C. Hays Trail.

We received word that Mark New passed away Thursday, Feb. 21 in Arizona where he and his family had lived since 1980. New was a 1960 graduate of Buda High School. Services will be held in Arizona on March 2 and a memorial service will be held in Buda on June 21 at the Buda Baptist Church for all his Texas family and friends.

Joellen Simmons would like for all her friends to know that she is Rockport-bound after living in our area since 1974. We will miss her here but the move will put her closer to her grandkids and that will be very nice for all.

As of Monday, downtown Buda will shine brighter at night since PEC workers installed the lights on the new street poles in old town Buda along the west side of Main Street.

Another “first Thursday” is coming up on March 7 for shopping, eating and enjoying entertainment in the historical downtown Buda.
