DRIPPING SPRINGS -- Due to concerns surrounding the current climate of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Founders Day Commission decided to cancel the 2021 Founders Day Festival. Below is a statement from the Commission.
"The last twelve months have been very difficult for our nation, state, and beloved town of Dripping Springs. We keep in our prayers those who are battling COVID and those who have lost family or friends to the pandemic. During these unprecedented times, we are reminded of what matters most which is our health, safety, and well-being. With this in mind, and in the interest of public health, it is with heavy hearts that the Founders Day Commission has decided to cancel this year’s Founders Day Festival.
For over 30 years, thousands of people have gathered in downtown Dripping Springs for a festive celebration of heritage and pioneer spirit. The annual Founders Day Festival honors and celebrates the founding of Dripping Springs by the Moss, Wallace, and Pound families. The three-day jubilee kicks-off with a grand parade followed by a carnival, arts & crafts, food & drinks, a barbecue cook- off, and some of the best music from bands around the area.
This year, as a commission, we carefully explored and evaluated numerous options including scaling back, virtualizing, or postponing the event. After lengthy and thoughtful deliberation, it was determined we could not effectively ensure a safe environment and maintain the integrity of this unique Founders Day Festival experience. We also wanted to obviate any risk of Founders Day Festival contributing as a super-spreader event. Our top priority is, and will continue to be, the safety of our commissioners, volunteers, exhibitors, donors, contractors, and patrons of all ages.
We hope that our Dripping Springs community remains strong and resilient as we continue to face the ongoing challenges of COVID. Though Founders Day Festival 2021 has been canceled, our dedicated commissioners are passionate about bringing everyone an unforgettable Founders Day Festival next year. We can’t wait to see you back the weekend of April 22-24, 2022, enjoying your most cherished and anticipated event of the year!"
