Heroes Behind the Badge
The Kyle Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (KCPA3) will be sponsoring a law enforcement documentary, Heroes Behind the Badge. It showcases the lives of seven officers (four fallen, three survivors) and provides a real-life observation of law enforcement life including the decisions made daily and the impact of those decisions.  Tickets are $10 pre-sale and $15 at-the-door. Fifty percent of the net proceeds will be donated to the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial in Washington, D.C. The screening will take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 at Evans Auditorium on the campus of Texas State University.


MDA Muscle Walk in Austin
Join a group of Kyle area residents as they support Negley fourth-grader Amadeo Andrade in the MDA Muscle Walk at 7:30 a.m. this Sat., Feb. 23 at Barton Creek Square Mall in Austin. Amando has Muscular Dystrophy but his team of friends and neighbors, calling themselves “Amadeo’s Army,” offer plenty of support for Amadeo and his family, including teacher Elizabeth Andrade. Empty Bowls Project
The fourth annual Kyle/Buda Women Democrats Empty Bowls Project will donate 100 percent of its profits to the Hays County Food Bank. The event is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., Feb. 24, at the Kyle Historic City Hall. Everyone is welcome. For a $20 donation, each guest can choose their own hand crafted bowl and from a wide variety of delicious homemade soups. There will be options for carnivores and vegans alike, along with fresh bread and cornbread.


World Spay Day
PALS (Pet Prevent A Litter of Central Texas) will host a Spay/Neuter Clinic to promote World Spay Day. Take advantage of this chance to get your dog or cat spayed or neutered and help reduce the pet overpopulation problem in Central Texas. In 2012, PALS spayed and neutered 324 dogs and 926 cats. The nonprofit offers assistance for those who cannot otherwise afford to fix their pets. Appointments are needed; visit www.PreventALitter.com or call (512) 754-7257. The clinic will be held on Feb. 26 at the Kyle Petco.


Gov. Perry coming to Hays County
The Hays Republican Party will host its annual Lincoln/Reagan dinner. Texas Gov. Rick Perry is the keynote speaker for the dinner. The state’s top elected official will discuss current issues and timely topics. Tickets are required but the event is open to the public. The dinner will be from 5:30-9 p.m. Feb. 28 at Texas Disposal System Exotic Game Ranch in Buda.


Mystic Music Fest at Texas State
Come enjoy a showcase of local artisans and musicians in the greater San Marcos area at the fifth annual Mystic Music Festival. Created in 2008 as a fall social by fraternity brothers at Texas State University, the event blossomed. The festival will be from 5-11 p.m. March 2 at the LBJ Student Center at Texas State, 109 Student Center Dr.
