The sights and smells of Mt. City

by PAULINE TOM

Ahhhhhhhhhhh-garita. It’s that time of year again, when yellow blossoms burst forth with honey fragrance. In late January, a few early blossoms appeared this year.

The agarita fragrance mingles in our Mountain City air with the grape Kool-Aid fragrance produced by Mountain Laurel.

Agarita and Mountain Laurel grew here before development. Once established, these evergreens withstand drought with little or no watering.

Through the years, I’ve successfully transplanted agarita from undeveloped land. None of the many Mountain Laurel we’ve brought in survived.

Congratulations to the Medlock girls (and others on the Buda Bandits cheer team). They are bringing home a 2nd Place trophy from ESPN Wide World of Sports competition in Orlando. Destiny, Lily, and Hannah are also bringing home memories of family time at Epcot and Magic Kingdom.

And, Happy March 5 Birthday to their dad, David.

Mika Facebooked on Monday, “Thank you God for giving me the most wonderful and adventurous children... oh & especially thank you for little girls who love love love roller coasters! Yee Haw!”

The City of Mountain City introduced a new website over the weekend. Access it with the same www.moutaincitytx.com and find a nifty new look and easier access to contents. It adds a “Discussion” feature. For instance, there’s a running group with the question “How far do you run and how fast?”.

If your watch is running, get ready fast to change it. Time change comes this weekend. Spring forward on Sunday.

The black fawn born last spring? As a yearling, he (she?) still makes appearances. The coloring is not as dark now.

Also noteworthy, at least two limping doe.

We’re seeing very dark, almost black, scaly lizards. In the past, we’ve seen gray. I think one is eating mealworms I toss onto a picnic table in hopes of bringing back nesting Eastern Bluebirds to my yard.

Mountain City, Texas got a first sentence mention in the bluebirds article in the Spring 2013 Out Here magazine available for free at Tractor Supply Stores across the United States.
