Buda Chamber of Commerce hires consultant as facilitator

by MOSES LEOS III

At the recent annual board of directors retreat, the Buda Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) hired consultant J.R. Gonzales, who played a role as facilitator in brainstorming new ideas and programs for area businesses.

Gonzales, president and CEO of the independent consulting firm JRG Communications, was brought in to help the BACC reach the “next level” of providing services to members.

“We are excited to have J.R.’s expertise,” said BACC Chairman of the Board Lisa Sauceda, who looked forward to ideas brainstormed during the retreat. “We are excited for him to be here.”

In the two-day retreat, the directors went through a training process, as Gonzales assessed the current function of the Chamber, ensuring that things were running smoothly. Additionally, Gonzales assisted the Chamber in planning new ideas and programs, as well as setting new goals for the future. Gonzales said many of the new ideas are still in the planning stages.

The goal for Gonzales is to ensure that the Chamber is able to provide adequate services to the Buda community, as well as play a larger role with members of the BACC. “We are anxious for the Chamber to reach the next level,” said Gonzales, who said the directors are cognizant of the incredible growth Buda has seen over the past few years.

Executive Director Cindy Swink hoped that the plans and ideas forged during this meeting would increase membership with the Chamber of Commerce. “We are excited at the wonderful ideas we have come up with,” she said. Swink said she hoped these new ideas would help stimulate growth in Chamber membership, as well as strengthen the rapport with area businesses.

While the BACC declined to comment on how much Gonzales was paid, Gonzales did say one of their ideas is to bring back Business After Hours mixers to Buda. These functions allow networking opportunities for members in the Chamber of Commerce. According to Gonzales, the Buda Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their first Business After Hours mixer on March 28.

Gonzales brings with him extensive experience in Chamber functions. He has served as chairman of the board in local and statewide chambers. Currently, he owns JRG Communications, which works with non-profit organizations

Gonzalez’ tenure with the BACC is temporary, with his role concluding at the end of March.
