Kyle police collected over $15,000 in the first days of the 2013 Great Texas Warrant Roundup.
Police Chief Jeff Barnett said Warrant Officer Zach Castilleja and a handful of cops took to the street Saturday morning, the roundup’s first official day, and brought in 10 individuals with outstanding warrants.
He said Saturday’s efforts produced $2000 in cash and cleared about $6500 in total warrants.
Though Kyle Police started a little early, Barnett said that from Feb. 25 through March 4, the city collected $15,270 in outstanding fines and cleared 51 warrants.
Barnett said the ten individuals brought in to the municipal court Saturday settled their responsibilities to the court resulting in no arrests.
“Our goal is not to put people in jail,” Barnett said. “But we need them to take care of their obligations to the court.
At the end of February, over $3 million were owed to Kyle in fines and over 8,000 warrants remained outstanding.
Over 300 jurisdictions all across Texas are participating in the roundup that is slated to run through March 10.
