Local named Big Sister of the Year

SUBMITTED REPORT

On Thursday, March 14, Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies and supporters from throughout Texas converged in the State Capitol of Texas to honor the Texas Big Brother and Big Sister of the Year. Texas Education Agency Commissioner Michael Williams recognized this year’s winners in the Lt. Governor’s Reception Room.

CJ Legare of Kyle was named Big Sister of the Year. She was paired with Little Sister Samantha four years ago. Agency officials say Legare has proven to be not only a reliable, supportive adult in Sam’s life but also a friend whom Sam has come to trust, and seek advice from. Since they met, Sam’s grades have improved tremendously and she’s even started her own babysitting business. With Legare’s guidance, Sam has become a master at marketing her business; she even attends Chamber of Commerce networking events where she speaks with local business leaders and distributes business cards.

The shy, pessimistic girl that Legare met four years ago is gone; she’s now a bright-eyed hopeful teenager ready to tackle her future. Legare is the Founder and CEO of Functional Girl, a full-service life styling firm with a mission to redefine female culture.
