Friends of the Buda Library host annual meeting

by CONNIE BROOKS

The Friends of the Buda Public Library held their annual meeting on Sunday, bringing to a close a very productive year for the group. Kathy Luckett, president of the organization throughout 2012, presided over the two-hour meeting of Friends members and the public. Notable among the attendees was Buda Mayor Todd Ruge and City Council Member Eileen Altmiller, both former officers of the non-profit organization in previous years.

During the meeting, Luckett honored several businesses which have donated money and services in 2012, as well as the library volunteers, whose time and hard work are crucial to the success of our library.

A special acknowledgement was given to Georgie Cunningham, a founding member of the Friends, for her years of dedication, service and invaluable leadership.

Ruge spoke of his personal lifelong love of libraries and the important role they play in communities.

Buda Library Director Melinda Hodges spoke of the successes of the library, the goals that lie ahead, and the current challenges the library faces.

The meeting concluded with thanking the outgoing board members and officers who had served during the year and the nominations and election of a new board for 2013.

New board members Kathy Luckett, Lea Ahmed and Juliette Miller then appointed the officers who will serve in the coming year.

Marc Hunter will act as president, Pam Nelson is the acting vice president and treasurer, and Juliette Miller will take over the duties of secretary.
