Fasching Fredericksburg
At the 2013 Fasching Ball, themed “Kabarett- a Dance Between the Flames”, the Hangar Hotel in Fredericksburg will be transformed with beautiful ice sculptures; out-of-this-world décor; gourmet cuisine, a vodka and bourbon bar; and even a cigar bar. Event goers are encouraged to wear Kabarett themed attire. The Fredericksburg Theater Company will perform Kabarett-style entertainment, and altered 5, a jazz combo, will provide live music. Tickets for the Fasching Ball are $150 per person, and tables for four, eight, and twelve begin at $1,500. The event  takes place from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Feb. 9.  Proceeds from Fasching Fredericksburg benefit the Hill Country Community Needs Council and PAWS- the Pedernales Animal Welfare Society.


 


Spend a night under the stars to help children
Join Hope & Love 4 Kids for the Third Annual Fundraising Gala, “A Night Under the Stars!” The Gala honors the organization’s seventh birthday. Organizers promise an evening full of musical entertainment, delicious food, a silent auction and a photo memory booth. The sole purpose of Hope & Love 4 Kids is to help children and families in need. The organization has no paid staff and is solely run by a 14-member, volunteer board of directors. The fundraising event takes place at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at The Winfield Inn in Kyle. For tickets, email [email protected].


 


’80s icon to perform at Long Center in Austin
Christopher Cross, one of the biggest musical icons of 1980, virtually defined adult contemporary radio. His self-titled debut album with the lead single, “Ride Like the Wind,” and other Top 20 hits, “Never Be the Same,” “Say You’ll Be Mine,” ”Arthur’s Theme” and of course, “Sailing,” put him on track to walk off with an unprecedented and record-setting five Grammy® awards in 1981. Over the last three decades he has recorded eight albums, including his most recent, “Doctor Faith.” Cross will be accompanied by the Austin Symphony Orchestra when he plays in Dell Hall at 8 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Long Center in downtown Austin.


 


Ballet Folklórico to perform at Texas State
The Encore Series at Texas State University welcomes Ballet Folklórico of the University of Texas-Pan American, the longest standing folkloric performing group in the nation. The group, founded in 1970 by Amilda Thomas, represents Mexican culture and tradition. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17 in Evans Auditorium on the Texas State campus. CTMC will host a free car seat inspection
Free child car seat inspections by a certified technician are being offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Central Texas Medical Center Women’s Center in San Marcos. During the inspections, technicians check if existing car seats are correctly installed and for manufacturer recalls. They will also educate car owners on how to correctly install the seats. Technicians will also evaluate the seats to determine if they are appropriate for the age, height and weight of the child. Participants are encouraged to call (512) 393-5567 to schedule an appointment.
