Norma Purcell Alston, age 82, of Buda, formerly of Kingsville, Texas passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2012. She was born on February 10, 1930 in Electra, Texas to Norbert and Naomi Purcell. She attended the public schools of Luling, Texas and graduated Salutatorian of her class. Until her marriage, she was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She volunteered as a Librarian at St. Gertrude’s Catholic School in Kingsville while her children attended school there. Also, she was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and an active member of the Kingsville Women’s Club. In Buda, she was an active parishioner of Santa Cruz Catholic Church.
Norma is survived by her husband of 62 years, William H. Alston of Buda; sons, David Sr. and wife, Maria of Niederwald and Michael and wife, Mary of Houston; daughter, Cynthia Alston Wood and husband, Josh of Fort Riley, KS; grandchildren, David Jr., John Paul, and Anastasia all of Niederwald; granddaughter, Rachel of Houston; great-grandsons, Conner and Sean Wood of Ft. Riley, KS; sister, Frances Davis and husband, John of Temple; also numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and half-brother, Norbert Jr.
The Holy Rosary was recited by Deacon Ben Garcia on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle. The Mass was celebrated by Father Charlie Garza on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Santa Cruz Catholic Church of Buda. The Rite of Christian Burial followed at the Luling City Cemetery. The pallbearers were David Alston Sr., Michael Alston, Joshua Wood, Jack Rouse, David Alston Jr., and John Pena.
