Sustainacycle opens Sustain-a-Market, a new monthly farmer’s market in Kyle
Beginning this weekend, area residents will have another farmer’s market option. Sustainacycle, at the recently opened Sustainable Living Center, will operate a farmer’s market on the third Saturday of the month through July, then again in Sept. Eight vendors have signed up so far. The market will be open from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., March 16, at 409 West Center Street in Kyle.
Free spring break movie in the park
Join us for the Kyle Parks and Recreation’s “Second Annual Spring Break Movie in the Park.” The movie will be “Puss in Boots.” Movie begins at dark - approximately 7 p.m. - Mar. 15 at Gregg Clarke Park. Bring a picnic, enjoy a movie and have some family time before the children head back to school.
Enter your car in the race against cancer

Book reading and signing by Christian Wiman at the Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center
Christian Wiman, the author of four books of poetry and two collections of essays, will give a reading and book signing at 7:30 p.m. March 22 at the Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center in Kyle. Wiman has been the editor of Poetry Magazine since 2003. In the New Yorker, poet and critic Dan Chiasson called Wiman’s Every Riven Thing one of the eleven best poetry collections of the year. Wiman’s other collections include The Long Home, which won the Nicholas Roerich Prize, Hard Night, Stolen Air, translations of Osip Mendelstam, and the nonfiction collections Ambition and Survival: Becoming a Poet and My Bright Abyss. He has been the recipient of both the Ruth Lilly and Wallace Stegner fellowships. Wiman will also read from his works at 3:30 p.m. March 21 at the Wittliff Collections in the Alkek Library at Texas State University. Both events are free and open to the public.
Hill Country Wildflower Festival
A blend of arts and crafts, gardeners and plants, food, and shopping experiences for those who are looking for something a little different. This year we include antiques and collectibles in the mix along with live music throughout the day. Bring your lawn chairs and quilts for comfortable seating. Check back for a music schedule the week before the show. Show hours are 10-5 on Saturday, March 23 and 10-4 on Sunday, March 24. Admission is $3.00 for adults. Bob Schneider to perform at Hats Off For Hospice
Help raise money for the Central Texas Medical Center’s Hospice Care’s “Dream a Dream” program by attending the ninth annual Hats Off for Hospice fundraiser. This family-friendly BBQ helps CMTC grant wises to patients in hospice to fulfill their last desire in life. Recent wishes granted include flying in a hot air balloon, arranging a family portrait and helping a patient get married. The featured entertainer this year is musician Bob Schneider, a fixture on the Austin music scene. Activities include hayrides, photo booth, moonwalk, face painting, kiddie train, live auction and silent auction and more. One lucky person will win a 4-night, 5-day family trip for six to Ruidoso, New Mexico. Hats Off for Hospice takes place March 24 from 2 - 6 p.m. at Texas Old Town in Kyle. Nominate an outstanding senior citizen volunteer
Do you know a senior citizen who gives his or her time as a volunteer? Texas residents are encouraged to nominate outstanding senior volunteers. The Salute to Senior Service program honors the contributions of adults 65 and older who give at least 15 hours a month of volunteer service to their favorite causes. Nominations for outstanding senior volunteers will be accepted between Feb. 1 and March 31, 2013. State winners will be selected by popular vote at www.salutetoseniorservice.com. Online voting will take place from April 15-30. The winner from each state will have $500 donated to his or her favorite nonprofit. The national winner will have $5,000 donated to his or her charity of choice.
