The Rebel baseball team earned a big win by beating Austin Bowie 5-2 in a game played Tuesday night at Burger center. The Rebs started the scoring in the second when Devin Palm reached base on an error followed by a Nate Scoot single. With one out, Adrian Acosta ripped a double to push both runners across the plate. Bowie responded in the bottom half with three of their own. After loading the bases with none out, the Bulldogs used a ground out, single and a passed ball to garner their load. Enter Rebel pitching, starter Tyler Woodmansee(1-1) buckled down and shut Bowie off in the fourth and fifth. Reliever Adrian Acosta then retired six straight to finish the Bulldogs off and notch the save. Alex Robles led off the fifth with a single and Jose Cerda reached on a well-executed bunt. Granger Studdard drove in Robles with a single to left and later scored on a bases loaded walk to give the Rebs the lead for good. The Rebs added an insurance run in the seventh when Dalton Niles singled and scored on a Justin Diaz fly ball. Studdard and Scott led the offense with two hits apiece and the Rebels played flawless defense, having no errors. Hays will play Cibolo Steele on Thursday at 10:00 Am in the Judson Tournament.
