Lobo soccer remains undefeated

by JOSH YOUNG

The Lobos boys soccer team remained undefeated in district play as they defeated the Giddings Buffaloes Friday night, 4-1. Senior Eli Guajardo opened the scoring with 2 goals, followed by sophomore Rene Torres, and finished by freshmen Diego Garcia with a penalty kick. A showdown with the Lockhart Lions looms on Tuesday night as the Lehman looks to close out the first half of district play with a 6-0 record.

Lehman’s boys soccer team closed` out the first half of district play with another 4-0 shutout, this one coming against the Lockhart Lions on Tuesday night. The Lobos, still undefeated on the season, carry a 6-0 district mark and a bulls-eye on their back heading into the next round of games. After recording another shutout against a district opponent, Lehman coach Jay Sansom was quick to praise the efforts of goalkeeper Mikey Torres, converted defender Michael Diers, and all of the defenders for their recent play.

The forward combination of senior Eli Guajardo and freshman Diego Garcia have caused fits for all teams as their selfless play has allowed the Lehman offense to thrive. The duo combined to score or assist on three of the goals on Tuesday with assistance from both wings, Albert Percastegui and Manuel Diego, who have contributed offensively and defensively during this stretch. Junior midfielder Fabian Mantilla nailed home a penalty kick late in the second half to notch the 4-0 result. The Lobos have a night off on Friday as they can sit back and rest before resuming district play next Tuesday with a match against Cedar Creek, whom they beat 3-2 to open the season.
