A near head-on collision along FM 2770 between the Onion Creek Senior Citizens Center and the Texas Lehigh Cement plant left two dead and six injured on Tuesday afternoon, according to Buda Police Sergeant Bill Kuykendall.

The accident occurred near the 200 block of FM 2770 between a maroon GMC Terrain and a bus that was ferrying six residents from the Creekside Villas Senior Village Apartments. According to Kuykendall, a maroon GMC Terrain was travelling southwest toward Hays High School along FM 2770, with the bus going northeast toward Buda.

FM 2770, also known as Jack C. Hays Trail, was also closed to through traffic on Wednesday around noon to continue investigation on the wreck.

The driver of the SUV, William Bevill, 68, of Mountain City, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Creekside Villas resident Joyce Wilkerson, 74, was flown via StarFlight to Brackenridge Hospital, but died during transport.

The accident occurred in the early afternoon on Tuesday when the Terrain struck a bus ferrying six residents from the Creekside Villas.

For unknown reasons, the Terrain veered into the opposite lane of traffic. The driver of the bus honked its horn to warn the driver of the Terrain. Unable to get the Terrain driver’s attention, the driver of the Creekside Villa bus swerved to avoid a full head-on collision. The Terrain collided with the rear driver side tire of the bus, flipping the bus over on its right side. The force of the wreck swept the Terrain around, leaving it facing southwesterly traffic.

Buda police and fire department  personnel were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:25 p.m. Three passengers were airlifted to Brackenridge. Two of those are now listed in stable condition. The additional four injured in the bus were transported to Seton Hays Hospital and have since been released.

Kidd said an autopsy has been ordered for Bevill.

“This accident is so unique, because it involved so many of our citizens,” said Kidd. “The people from Creekside Villas are a tight knit community; this has been a traumatic ordeal for them. One of my main concerns will be to help them in any way we can.”
