DRIPPING SPRINGS — The Dripping Springs City Council and staff said their goodbyes to Todd Purcell on Tuesday, Feb. 9, after he decided to retire from city government.

Previously serving as the Dripping Springs mayor for more than 20 years, Purcell temporarily stepped into the Place 3 seat in May 2020 to assist with navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. Bill Foulds was then sworn in as the current mayor.

Council accepted Purcell’s letter of resignation Tuesday night — despite the difficulty of letting him go.

“Todd, it’s been a privilege of mine to serve with you for over 20 years,” Foulds said. “I certainly appreciate everything. I know you are a phone call away from all of us or any of us at any given time. We sincerely thank you for your service and we will be calling on you in the near future.”

Purcell shared some final words to city council before the meeting closed.

“Serving as a council member and getting to know each of y’all as colleagues, I know you have your heart in it for Dripping Springs,” Purcell said. “I truly feel that Dripping Springs and its community is in great hands and I will support y’all in any way I can.”
