The EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens Annual Butterfly Festival
More than 3,000 butterflies will be released at the annual butterfly festival in Wimberley this weekend. Businesses and individuals sponsored 200 cages containing Painted Lady caterpillars, which are native to Central Texas, to area classrooms in early April. The students observed as the caterpillars created chrysalises and the butterflies emerged. The cages are then returned to the EmilyAnn for release during the festival, which runs from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. April 20 at the EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens. The event also features games, crafts, nature activities, butterfly art, concessions, and live entertainment for all ages. Accompanying the festival is an art competition judged by professional artists who select winners for each grade level (grades K-12) in both fantasy and realistic categories. The entry selected as Best in Show is featured on the t-shirt and publicity for the next year’s festival. The festival is free though donations are accepted. As a preview to the Wimberley event, on April 18, more than 100 butterflies raised by students at Santa Cruz Catholic School in Buda and Mendez Elementary School in San Marcos will be released in the Burdine Johnson Healing Garden at Seton Medical Center Hays. Students have raised the butterflies themselves and will lure them out from wire cages onto fruit slices before setting them free into the trees and plants in the garden.
Old Settler’s Music Festival

Aggie Muster
The Hays County A&M Club will host its annual Aggie Muster this Sunday. Wiener Dog Races go French with Les Weinerables
The Buda Lions is hosting its annual Country Fair and Weiner Dog Races. April 27-28 at Buda City Park. Admission $3 for adults and kids over 12, kids under 12 are free. All proceeds benefit the Buda Lions which support Hays CISD schools. See page 6C for more details.
Canterville Ghost opens at Wimberley Players
Whether or not you believe in ghosts, you’re likely to enjoy Canterville Ghost at the Wimberley Playhouse. Based on an Oscar Wilde story, this family-friendly musical comedy follows the antics of a family that moves into a haunted mansion but they don’t believe it. Canterville Ghost runs through May 5. Earth Day Celebration
Sponsored by Texas State University-San Marcos Common Experience, University Seminar and the Environmental Service Committee and the city of San Marcos, the Earth Day Celebration will take place from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. April 27 at Aquarena Center in San Marcos. Attendees will hear musical performances by local bands and watch a puppet show by Doc Edwards. Bring a donation for the Hays County Food Bank and receive a $2 off coupon for a glass-bottom boat tour on the day of the event.
