The Hays CISD Board of Trustees had several recent meetings. Below is a brief summary of each of those meetings. At the Aug. 8 Board of Trustees meeting, the board unanimously voted to approve Cynthia Vasquez as the fulltime principal of Tom Green Elementary School. She has been the assistant principal at the campus since Dec. 2009. The board also approved the new meeting calendar. Beginning in September, the board will meet twice a month rather than one time each month. The fi rst meeting will be in a workshop setting. The subsequent business meeting will take place the following week. A public forum will be offered at both meetings. New student Code of Conduct was approved. The board received information on a new extracurricular code of conduct. Following discussion, the trustees requested several edits to the document and sent it back to central administration for revision. The board also had the fi rst reading on several policies, which will be on an upcoming agenda to fi nalize. At this meeting, the board also held a budget discussion. On Aug. 10, the Board of Trustees met for a three-hour state mandated board training. The focus was on the effectiveness of the team. At the Aug. 12 meeting, the board approved the revised extracurricular code of conduct. Trustees also spent several hours working on its 2013-2014 goals. The process will be different from that in previous years. The board is revamping how it derives its district goals and it is anticipated it will take longer to fi nalize those goals this time around.
