With a day's best jump of 18 feet, 7.50-inches Friday, Lehman Lobo senior Nikayla Fitzgerald closed her high school track and field career in style by taking fourth place in the UIL girls 5A state long jump competition in Austin. Fitzgerald hit her best mark of the day on her fourth attempt out of six tries, edging out Mansfield Timberview's Jordyn Tiggs for fourth in the standings, a career best. Friday marked the third time in four years Nikayla has competed at the UIL State Track and Field Meet in Austin.
