Holidays happening in Buda

By Sandra Grizzle.

We are going to try this again and hopefully with warmer weather … Budafest is this Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and 15.  Just as previously scheduled, the parade starts at 10 a.m. followed by the opening of many food, arts and crafts booths, free entertainment, carnival rides and visits with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Come do your Christmas shopping in downtown Buda and meet up with new and old friends.

Members of the Onion Creek Senior Citizens will again have a booth at Buda-fest under the old oak tree across from the gazebo. As always, the seniors will have homemade baked goods and crafts as well as tickets for a chance to win a beautiful quilt.  Drawing for the winner of the quilt will take place late Sunday afternoon.

Our area boy scouts will be collecting toys for Brown Santa during Budafest so plan to contribute something. Also there is a toy collection tub at Little Bluebird and Old Main Street Station at the corner of Main and RR 967.

The fifth annual Trail of Lights opens Thursday night, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. for all our area senior citizens.  There will be refreshments served by the Buda Lions Club and transportation provided to the Trail of Lights at Stagecoach Park. Golf carts will be available for seniors that have difficulty walking the half-mile trail.

Beginning Friday, Dec. 13 through Saturday, Dec. 22, the public is invited to visit the free Trail of Lights. Parking is available at Cabela’s with free shuttle service to the park. Again golf carts will be provided for those who have difficulty walking.

Also re-scheduled for Saturday is the grand opening of the Jackson Tyler Norris Memorial Skate Park from noon until 3 p.m. at the skate park.

The Onion Creek Senior Citizens will have a Christmas Dinner Dance on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 5 until 9 p.m. at the senior center located at 420 Bartons Crossing in Buda. Tickets are $15 per person. Contact John Lemmerman at 512-295-0344 to purchase or visit the center on Thursdays.

Birthday wishes go out to Sheelah Goforth, Karen Herrmann and Judge Beth Smith on Dec. 11; Pat Vallejo on Dec. 12; Jack Caraway on Dec. 14; Judy Deats, Annette Potts and Betty Stang on Dec. 16 and Jeff Odell on Dec. 18.

Happy anniversary wishes go out to Annette and John Potts on Dec. 17 as they celebrate 52 years of marriage.
