Buda Fire gets new radios
The Buda Fire Department / Hays County ESD 8 received the FY 2012 Assistance to Firefighters Grant for new radios and communication equipment to help better serve our department. The total cost of the project is $148,750.00 with Federal Emergency Management Agency / Department of Homeland Security granting 90% of the project and approving a grant in the amount of $133,875.00. The ESD 8 share of the cost is 10 percent or $14,875.00.
FEMA’s Grant Programs Directorate (GPD), in consultation with the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), will carry out the Federal responsibilities of administering the grant.
In the near future, Buda Fire Chief Cay Huckaby said the department will begin the procurement and bidding process to establish a new radio system. The ultimate goal of the grant, he said, is to improve two-way radio communications during operations and to improve capabilities with dispatch and surrounding departments for interoperability. This grant was written with personnel safety as the utmost importance. A new radio system will improve the service delivered by Buda Fire and EMS.
