Kyle Fair and Music Festival 


Celebrate Kyle with a four-day shindig. Event kicks off Thursday with a carnival. The fun continues with live music starting at 6 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. Also enjoy art and craft as well as food vendors all weekend and an academic pageant Friday and Saturday culminating in the crowning of Miss Kyle Fair. There is also the Kyle-O-Meter 5 K Sunday morning at Wallace Middle School. This free festival (with the exception of concert tickets for music acts) takes place starting Thursday evening at the Central Texas Speedway at the Yarrington Road exit in south Kyle. JABFEST


The Josh Abbott Band’s upcoming festival JABFEST on Oct. 19 takes place at Central Texas Speedway as part of the Kyle Fair and Music Festival.  $1 from each ticket sale will go to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. For anyone who wears pink, the band will match the donation.

Jennifer Egan, born in Chicago and raised in San Francisco, is the author of The Invisible Circus, a novel that became a feature film starring Cameron Diaz in 2001. Her other books include Look at Me, a finalist for the National Book Award in fiction in 2001, Emerald City and Other Stories and the bestselling The Keep.  Her most recent novel, A Visit From the Goon Squad, won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction, and the LA Times Book Prize.  Her short stories have appeared in The New Yorker, Harpers, Granta, McSweeney’s and other magazines. She will speak and sign books at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Wittliff collections of the Alkek Library at Texas State University and again at 7:30 p.m. Oct 18 at the Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center in Kyle. Both events are free and open to the public.
