Max Simmons, also known as “Jedi Max,” of Killeen, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2013. He was eight years old. Max suffered from an aggressive form of brain cancer called Glioblastoma Multiforme. He had surgery to remove the tumors last year, and rounds of medication and radiation to help stop the growth. However, the tumors returned and spread at an alarming rate.
He died in the loving arms of his mother, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Jay and Scott Simmons, and his sister, Katie, of Killeen, his grandparents, Max and Maria Vasquez, of Buda, and many other family members.
Funeral services were held in Pflugerville on Monday, May 27. For those who were unable to attend the funeral, the family asked that blue balloons be released in his memory. Members of Central Texas AMVETS Post 115, Kyle and Buda Fire Departments, friends, and shoppers at H-E-B in Kyle honored this request and released balloons at 1:25 p.m. on Monday, May 27 in the store parking lot in Max’s name.
