Eight Rebel baseball players named 27-4A All-District

by MOSES LEOS III

After a lengthy postseason run, eight members of the Hays High Rebel baseball team earned All-District honors over the weekend.

Hays finished 2013 with a 22-10 mark, going 9-5 in District 27-4A. The Rebels’ efforts during the season aided them in earning a share of the district title with Alamo Heights and Kerrville Tivy.

During their postseason run, the Rebels fought through to the regional semifinal round, where eventual State Tournament participant Corpus Christi Moody eliminated them in a 6-1 loss.

Hays also reached a milestone, advancing to the regional semifinal round for only the fourth time in program history.

Highlighting Hays’ progression in the postseason was pitcher Tyler Woodmansee, who played a pivotal role in keeping the Rebels in reach late in games.

The key game for the Rebels this year was game two of the regional quarterfinals against Schertz Clemens. Clemens entered the bottom of the seventh with a 4-0 lead, on the verge of forcing a third game.

The Rebels fought back in the bottom of the seventh, rallying to score five runs in their final at-bat to defeat the Buffaloes and keep their season alive.

Members of the All-District team are:

Tyler Woodmansee - JR. - Pitcher

(Unanimous decision)

Granger Studdard - SR.

Second Team:

J.C. Cerda - JR. - Catcher
