New principal for Tom Green Elementary
Hays CISD Superintendent Michael McKie announced Cynthia Vasquez as the interim principal of Tom Green Elementary. She has been the assistant principal at the campus since December 2009 and briefly served as the interim principal in 2010. McKie also announced he will recommend Vasquez to the Board of Trustees at its next meeting in August to be hired as the full-time principal at the campus.
Vasquez is a career educator with 17 years of experience, all of it at Hays CISD schools. She began her career in 1996 as a bilingual teacher at Kyle Elementary. She has also served as a bilingual teacher for other grades at Tom Green, Hemphill, and Camino Real Elementary Schools before becoming assistant principal at Tom Green. In 2012, she served as the Hays CISD summer school principal.
Vasquez replaces Will Webber, who was named principal of Tom Green in May. He submitted his resignation to Hays CISD in June. Spokesperson Tim Savoy said Webber found a new position in the San Antonio area.
