A weekend fire at the home of Tiber and Monty Nunneley in Buda’s Leisurewoods community resulted in a near compete loss for the couple.
According to Buda Fire Chief Clay Huckaby, the call came in at 12:21 p.m. Buda’s Engine 33 arrived at 12:28 p.m. Buda Engine 31 also assisted in the effort.
Upon arrival, Huckaby said firefighters found flames coming from the eves of the house and began ventilation through the peak of the roof. Buda firefighters then requested mutual aid from Kyle Fire Department; the crew from Engine One responded.
“The entire house was fully engulfed within minutes and we had to take a defensive approach to the fire,” Huckaby said. “Once the fire was brought under control, firefighters where sent inside to extinguish hot spots.”

Huckaby said the house was mostly destroyed along with a vehicle in the garage.
“The family also lost their pet dog due to the fire,” he said.
The Red Cross assisted the couple after the fire, Huckaby said.
Initial reports indicate that the occupants of the house vacated the premises and called 911 from a neighbor’s home to report a grease fire on the stove. Huckaby recommended covering any grease fires while cooking with a lid.
“Baking soda works well, too,” he said.
Huckaby said all Buda and Kyle Fire units remained on the scene until 4:30 p.m.
The fire is under investigation by the Hays County Fire Marshals Office, Huckaby said.
