The Hays High School Rebel Golf team can chalk up another top five win by graduating senior and 2012 4A State Individual Champion Lindsey McCurdy.
She placed fourth in the 2013 4A State Individual Championship race this year, marking her third consecutive top five win. And while it wasn’t the storybook ending she and her loyal family, coaches, and gallery wished for, it was a solid addition to her fifth and first place wins from the past two years.
Lindsey’s two-day effort ran up against a rain-shortened first-day rain-out, but starting early to make up the rain-delayed holes she carded a 71, just three strokes back of first-round (and eventual champion) Grace Choi of Dallas Wilson. But Choi followed up on her first-day 68 with a second-day 64.
Playing with Choi, fifth-place finisher Kelly Xac of Corpus Christi Tulorosa-Midway and Carrolton Creekview’s Paige Nelson, Lindsey’s long string of solid pars was memorable, but barely off the pace.
Sixty-eight state competitors fell short of McCurdy’s final tournament total of 145, with scores that ranged well past 200.
On May 7, McCurdy was named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association 4A Golf Academic All State team for 2012-2013. Athletes must have a GPA of 94 or above to qualify. The inclusion to the list adds to the accolades McCurdy has received, including her induction into the TGCA and Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Academic All State teams this season.
