The Manchaca Optimist Club celebrated its 50th anniversary Friday evening at the sports complex on FM 1626 at Bliss Spillar Road in far southwest Travis County. With its annual catfish fry and kids’ activities including rock climbing, bounce houses and a giant hamster ball, along with live music by Island Texas, the event offered something for just about everyone. The night culminated with a fireworks display over the Youth Sports Complex Since 1963, many Hays County area youth got their baseball start at the Manchaca Optimist sports center. Coaches, generally dads of players, frequently get involved at the T-ball level and continue until the players are eligible for high school-level sports.
