STAFF REPORT

The Hays Rebel Tennis team continued their year of success on April 28, as seniors Sam Simoneau and Katelyn Allred received 2012-2013 Most Valuable Player honors for the Hays tennis team at the Capital Area Tennis Association Awards (CATA) banquet.

Players receive this recognition based on their results from the year, their attitude and work ethic at practice and their contributions to and support of the team.

Sam was selected as a co-captain by his teammates, while Katelyn was the Team Spirit captain for the Rebels. Senior Sarah Farrell, a co-captain with Simoneau, was awarded a CATA scholarship. Farrell is the first student from Hays High School to receive a scholarship from CATA.

In the competition season in the Junior Tour sponsored by CATA, sophomore Dustin Zimmerman was recognized as the top point scorer. Additionally, Zimmerman was tabbed as the Junior Tour winner for the Boys 14’s age group.

“I am so proud of all of the accomplishments of these players,” said head coach Debbie Cook. “These seniors who are graduating will leave behind big shoes to fill for those returning next year.  I am excited that we have a number of players like Dustin who are competing outside of school tennis. It is a help to both their games and our program.”
