The Hays CISD Education Foundation recently hosted the annual teachers’ luncheon in observance of National Teacher Appreciation Week at Driftwood’s Trattoria Lisina Restaurant. Each of Hays CISD’s 23 campuses had its teacher of the year at the event. Retiring Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Carolyn Hitt delivered the gathering’s keynote remarks.
Hemphill Elementary’s Laura Aguilar and Wallace Middle School’s Christy Henry were named, respectively, Elementary Teacher of the Year and Secondary Teacher of the Year for the district. Aguilar and Henry now move on to represent Hays CISD in the Regional Teacher of the Year competition, in a process that steps up to the State Teacher of the Year and National Teacher of the Year competitions.
Elementary Teachers of the Year: Kristopher Brown (BVES), Laurie Young (BES), Lily Guevara (CRES), Charlotte Massey (CHES), Cristi Hopkins (EGES), Larisa De La Rosa (FES), Laura Aguilar (HES), Amiee Oliphant (KES), Elizabeth (Biz) Swearingen (NES), Katy Orr (PES), Claire Dibble (SHES), Tracy Young (TES), and Jo Ann Zavala (TGES).
Secondary Teachers of the Year: Owen Taylor (CMS), Alison Hadidi (BMS), Chris Levens (DMS), Victor Hernandez (SMS), Christy Henry (WMS), Brent Holcomb (HHS), Tiffany Whitis (Impact), Christina Miranda (LHS), Lance Jones (LOA), and Dr. Linda Kaufman (SpEd).
