“The Taming of the Shrew” at Wimberley Playhouse
A barrage of ruses, feints, and flirtations ensue in The Taming of the Shrew at the Wimberley Playhouse, continuing weekends July 12-21. Curtain time Friday and Saturday is 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday matinee is at 2:30 p.m.
Enjoy the science of spin at San Marcos Library
Kids ages three and up are invited to come see the “Science of Spin” show, part of the San Marcos Library’s summer programming. Nationally renowned Valerie Oliver will present two performances featuring tricks with yo-yos and tops at 10 and 11 a.m. Friday at the San Marcos Public Library. Oliver began yo-yoing at the age of 5. She attends and participates in National and World Yo-Yo Championships annually. The library has free tickets available for both shows. Stop by the library at 625 E. Hopkins St. to pick up your free tickets today.
FoodStock festivities in San Marcos
A celebration of Hays County and all that makes it great: music, art, food, the rivers and coming together as a community to help our neighbors in need. All food and monetary donations will go directly to feeding those in our communities. There will be a dunking booth featuring local celebs, a salsa showdown and plenty of vendors for your enjoyment. Don’t forget to bring the little ones because the San Marcos Fire Department will be there along with their firetrucks for the kids to explore. FoodStock takes place from 1-6 p.m. July 27 at the San Marcos Courthouse Square.
Boy Scout Blood Drive
Boy Scout Troop 128 of Buda will host a blood drive at the end of July. Donors age 17 and older can sign up at www.inyourhands.org using Group Code A837. The blood drive, managed by The Blood Center of Central Texas, takes place from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., July 27 at Cabela’s in Buda. Christmas in July
The Hays County Extension Education Association invites Hays County residents to attend its Christmas in July. Members will be showcasing and demonstrating several simple and unique craft items suitable for gifts throughout the year. The event is set for Wednesday, July 17, at 2 p.m., at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office, located at 1253 Civic Center Loop in San Marcos. There will also be a “Country Store” with gift and decorating items for sale. No reservations are required. Participants will pay $5, which provides them an illustrated pattern and instruction book and refreshments. A few of the items being demonstrated this year are memory boxes, fold up baskets, and diaper bouquets.
Ice Cream Social
Enjoy hotdogs, games and most importantly ice cream. Guests may enter their favorite homemade ice cream recipe. The event will also include family and children’s games and live music by the Onion Creek Ramblers. The ice cream social runs from 5-7 p.m. July 21 at the Buda United Methodist Church.
