A man who police say cut a 20-year-old San Marcos resident with a knife while apparently trying to burglarize the victim’s home is on the run, and authorities are asking for the public’s help in nabbing the alleged criminal.
The victim, who police have not identified, suffered minor knife cuts on his arm early Wednesday morning, after accosting the intruder at his home at the Avalon Apartments, according to San Marcos Police Sgt. Mike Wellman.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately five-foot ten-inches tall, thin build with thinning short hair and tanned skin. He was described as wearing a black or grey t-shirt and jeans.
The alleged attack happened after the victim arrived to his apartment shortly after midnight and discovered that his front door was open and saw an unknown male armed with a small knife holding a laptop computer, authorities said.
“The two struggled and the victim was cut several times on one arm,” a San Marcos Police news release said. “The offender fled on foot in an unknown direction.”
Authorities said the victim knocked on a neighbor’s door for help, but when no one answered he ran to the nearby La Quinta Hotel where EMS and police were called. The victim was treated for minor cuts to one arm.
Officers investigating the crime said the victim’s apartment showed signs of forceful entry.
Police said there have been no similar crimes reported, though San Marcos has recently experienced a spike in residential burglaries of single-family homes, Wellman said.
