Risk Assessments Coming to Hays CISD

The Hays CISD Board of Trustees achieved a longtime goal of hiring an outside entity to perform risk assessment and auditing services. At its Oct. 28 business meeting, the board approved the selection of TASB (Texas Association of School Boards) to conduct audits of various departments and programs in the district. The Boards’ goal is that these audits find ways to improve systems in the district and to demonstrate, with evidence, the things the district does well. The agreement approved at the meeting is for one year, with four one-year options to renew.

Hays HopeLine up and running

Access Hays HopeLine on a smartphone by downloading the free Hays CISD district app from the Apple App Store or Google Play android app store. Hays HopeLine is a convenient and confidential way for students and parents to report bullying, harassment, or any other personal crisis. Users can leave a tip 24-hours-a-day, any day of the year. However, the HopeLine is currently only monitored during regular school business hours. In the event of an emergency or immediate need, please call 9-1-1 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Tips to HopeLine are confidential, but not anonymous, and are sent to a counselor or administrator depending on the type of outreach and the campus indicated in the tip.

Pertussis on the rise; new cases confirmed in Hays CISD

Hays CISD officials are urging parents to make sure they and their children are vaccinated against Pertussis – also called whooping cough. So far this school year, two students, one from Negley Elementary School and one from Barton Middle School, had confirmed cases of Pertussis. On Tuesday of this week, district staff informed parents that a staff member who works at Simon Middle School has been exposed to whooping cough (also called pertussis). The staff member is currently not at school and is being treated by their doctor as a precaution.
