Library announces short story contest

STAFF REPORT

The Friends of the Buda Library will sponsor a Short Story Writing Contest to give Hays County library patrons an opportunity to flex their writing muscles and show off their imagination and literary skills. The contest is open to all library card holders in Hays County, over the age of 16, who are not professional writers.  Friends of the Buda Library Board members, officers, committee chairs, Buda Library staff and this year’s judges and their immediate families are excluded.

Short story entries must be 2,000 words or less, in English, and double spaced in 12 point font. Entries will be judged by local writers, teachers and librarians based on the quality of the writing, creativity, originality and story.

Entry fee is $20 (check or money order to Friends of the Buda Library). The contest is a Friends of the Buda Library Fundraiser. All entry fees and other monies are used for library projects.

Opening date for submissions is April 1, 2013

Story entries must be received before the library closes on April 30, 2013

All prize winners will be announced by May 23, 2013 in the Hays Free Press and on the Friends of the Buda Library and Buda Public Library web sites.  Winners will be individually notified.

The Friends of the Buda Library will award $200 for the first place story, $100 for the second place and $50 for the third place. The first place story will also be published on the Hays Free Press website.

Entry Guidelines are available at the Buda Public Library and at www.friendsofthebudalibrary.org.

Worldwide copyright on each entry remains with the author.
