Buda, Kyle food scores suffer in summer

This summer was a busy time for the Hays County health inspector. Overall, 39 locations in Kyle and 13 locations in Buda received food inspection scores last month. Several restaurants saw their scores improve and a few stayed the same, while others saw a change for the worse.


A few scores worth noting are:


Kyle scores that were worse since last inspection:


Dollar General went from 6 to 7 demerits between Oct. and July


Fox’s Pizza went from 0 to 6 demerits between Oct. and June


Guadalajara Bakery went from 6 to 7 demerits between Oct. and June


H-E-B Plus went from 0 to 6 demerits between Jan. and July


Little Ceaser’s went from 10 to 17 demerits between Oct. and June


Pho Thaison Vietnamese went from 0 to 9 demerits between Dec. and June


Shipley’s Donuts went from 6 to 14 demerits between March and July


Subway went from 5 to 9 demerits


Taqueria Huentitan went from 0 to 7 demerits between Oct. and July


Veggytopia went from 3 to 7 demerits between Nov. and July


Walgreen’s went from 0 to 4 between Sept. and July

Bread Basket went from 15 to 11 demerits between Nov. and July


Cakedreams went from 4 to 3 demerits between Oct. and July


Casa Garcia’s went from 14 to 3 demerits between Nov. and Aug. Chill Out Yogurt Bar went from 10


CiCi’s Pizza went from 10 to 0 demerits between Oct. and July


Koy went from 14 to 10 demerits between Sept. and July


Kyle SAC-N-PAC went from 4 to 3 demerits between Sept. and July


Legend Oaks Healthcare went from 4 to 0 demerits between Nov. and June


Park Place Foods went from 8 to 0 demerits between Nov. and June


Seton Medical Center went from 37 to 11 demerits between Oct. and July


Sonic Drive-in Plum Creek went from 7 to 3 between Nov. and July

Little Caeser’s went from 3 to 6 demerits between Oct. and June

Abby’s Mexfood went from 20 to 11 demerits between Oct. and Aug.


McDonald’s in Wal-Mart went from 14 to 10 demerits Oct. and June


Sonic (store #120) went from 11 to 4 demerits between Oct. and June


Speedy Stop, went from 18 to 3 demerits between Oct. and June


Walgreen’s in Buda went from 4 to 0 demerits between Oct. and June

Above average (1-7 demerits): Little Caeser’s, Sonic (store #120), Speedy Stop, Subway store #53507, Sweet Cakes 4U


Average (8-13 demerits): Abby’s MexFood, Chili’s, McDonald’s in Walmart

About the scores:


Hays County does not score on a standard 0 to 100 scale but instead tabulates total demerits. If no violations are found, a score of 0 demerits is achieved. Therefore, a higher score indicates more demerits.


If an establishment receives more than 30 demerits, a re-inspection is required and corrections must be made to bring the total score below 30 in accordance with the Texas Food Establishment Rules (Chapter 229 of the Texas Administrative Code/Health Services).


Look for more inspection scores in the coming year as the county continues its work in the Kyle and Buda area.
