Dorothy Elise Smith Brooks of Dripping Springs, TX died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 at Methodist Specialty & Transplant Clinic, San Antonio, TX after a hard-fought battle with liver disease. Born to S. Lanier Smith and Janet Mungerson Smith on April 30, 1958 in California, she moved to La Feria, TX when she acquired her stepfather, Ralph C. Brooks, at the age of 9.
Elise was the salutatorian of the high school class of La Feria 1976 and graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Computer Science.
Always employed in her field, she enjoyed a lengthy tenure at Commemorative Brands Inc. in Austin, where she succeeded in many IT positions, managerial and technical, serving in the position of Solutions Architect in her last years.
Elise is survived by her parents, Ralph and Janet Brooks and her siblings: Adrienne Moore, Jennifer Brooks (Mathew Thomas), Melody Brooks, Ralph Brooks III, Susan Christian (Michael), Melissa Brooks, Forrest Brooks, Amanda Borinstein (Mark), and April Chamberlain. Also surviving her are 12 nieces and nephews, and two godchildren.
Dedicated to and active in her church, First United Methodist Church of Dripping Springs, she was an enthusiastic member of the bell choir, and served on many boards and committees. Elise was also an active supporter of the Emmaus movement.
Fully understanding the importance of organ donation, Elise has donated her body to save others.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. Our family would prefer that those desiring to memorialize Elise, give to a charity of their choice.
