Only one new face will grace the Buda City Council, as voters chose to keep Wiley Hopkins and added newcomer Angela Kennedy in an overwhelming majority on Tuesday.

In a four-way race for Place 1, Kennedy defeated Wayne Proctor by nearly three times the vote, avoiding a potential runoff in a contentious race. Place 2 saw Hopkins defeat Amy Proctor for the second time in a year, as he won with 72 percent of the vote.
Kennedy was “cautiously optimistic” following the release of early voting numbers, which had her in the lead. Ultimately, she was pleased with the results.
“I’d like to express gratitude to my supporters, people who worked on my campaign and those who donated to my campaign,” she said. “I look forward to working with and serving the people of Buda.”
Hopkins was elated, especially with the high voter turnout. He felt his win was a “significant message from the public,” and is ready to continue serving on the dais.
“I support what the city is doing, and [the voters] support me,” Hopkins said. “Buda is a well-educated city. Our citizens saw through the rhetoric.”
Buda will swear in both candidates at the Nov. 19 city council meeting at Buda City Hall.
