Images of people panic-fueling have gone viral after news broke out about Colonial Pipeline’s temporary shut down, affecting gas stations in Eastern states. As the news spread, some people wondered if Texas will be next.
No, it will not.
The Hays Free Press/News-Dispatch contacted gas stations around the county assessing their fuel situation. Some gas stations said they saw an increase in customers, but there was no chaos -- nobody lining up waiting for fuel and nobody filling up plastic containers and gallons.
The gas stations contacted also confirmed that they are receiving their regular allotments of fuel.
GasBuddy, a fuel tracker application and website, also proved that Hays County is in no fuel shortage. The biggest take away? Do not panic.
Texas does not use the Colonial Pipeline to fuel the state, said GasBuddy Petroleum Analyst Patrick Dehaan. The pipeline begins in Houston and runs up to New Jersey.
The Colonial Pipeline is expected to return to its normal operations by the end of the week.
