Lehman Lobo volleyball loses three sets to the Lady Bufaloes

By Spencer Spilman.

Lehman High’s volleyball team hosted the Clemens Lady Buffaloes Tuesday night in the Lobo Den, but it wasn’t the performance they were looking for as the Lobos lost in three straight games, 11-25, 10-25, 10-25.

Clemens won several long points early in the game and after an ace from Desirae Friesenhahn, they had a 7-2 lead in game one. Lobos’ Heidi Muñoz tried to bring her team back, but after her second kill of the game they still trailed 9-19. Cheyenne Morgan also had two kills in the game but it wasn’t enough to stop the Buffaloes, who finished off game one 25-11.

The Lobos battled back in game two and gave the Buffaloes their toughest test of the night. An early kill from Lehman’s Hayley Rohde tied the game up at two points each. After three straight points from Clemens, Lobos’ Gaby Montoya got up for a big block to keep them close. Lehman also got a block from Aleeya Eskridge and an ace from Morgan, bringing the score to 6-8 Clemens. The crowd erupted two points later when Eskridge and Muñoz went up for a block and both ended up on the ground to make the save. The Lobos rallied behind their efforts to win the point. However, Clemens got a block from Kennedi Centers and scored six straight points to lead 17-8. The Lady Buffaloes did not slow down after that, and they eventually finished the game on a five point streak, winning 25-10.

Lobos’ Muñoz started game three with an ace, but after getting the serve, Clemens served for seven straight points. With the score at 6-1, Lehman volleyball head coach Megan Cooper called a timeout and had every player drop to the ground and jump back up several time along with push-ups.

“I just had to wake them up,” said Cooper after the game.

Lehman couldn’t recover and Clemens later scored five straight points the win game three, and the match, 25-10.

After the game, Muñoz said from now on, “There’s no more sloppiness. We are going to give it our all, sweat, blood, everything we got.”
