Bernhard Franz “Bernie” Wilson (1949-2013)


Proud veteran Bernhard Franz “Bernie” Wilson, 63, of Driftwood, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning Aug. 13, 2013, surrounded by family and friends.


He was born in Uetze, Hannover, Germany on Nov. 3, 1949, to William Frederick Wilson and Theodora Mollmann Wilson.


He served his country as a chemical equipment specialist in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in December of 1969. While in the Army he received a Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze service stars: Sharpshooter (Rifle); Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; and a National Defense Service Medal.  Bernie served the U.S. Army as a German citizen and received his U.S. citizenship in November of 1969.  He retired from U.S. Foods Service in May of 1995 after 25 years of truck driving.


He was preceded in death by his parents, William Frederick Wilson and Theodora Mollmann Wilson and his sister Thea Garrison. Bernie is survived by his wife of 43 years Audrey Darlene Wilson; three children: son Dean Wilson and wife Vinh of Cedar Park; son Christopher Wilson and wife Lori of Red Rock; daughter Tammy Dube and husband Clint, of McDade.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren:  Logan Dube; Curtis Wilson; Clayton Dube; Kara Wilson; Corbin Dube; Luke Wilson; Chloe Wilson.


Bernie loved and was so grateful for his wife Darlene who cared for him the last 20 years as his health declined.


Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle with burial following at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio with full military honors.
