A faulty main electrical line that powers the Chapa Middle School area is apparently responsible for a partial power outage at the school that affected some lighting, computers and all of the campus’ air conditioning Tuesday.
The power outage reportedly caused one of the rooftop air conditioning units to burn out, according to a Chapa Middle School letter to students’ parents.
Due to the power outage, the 7th and 8th grade STAAR testing schedule at Chapa Middle School has been shifted to Wednesday and Thursday of this week, the letter said.
Eighth graders at Chapa Middle School now will take STAAR Math on Wednesday, April 3rd, and STAAR Reading on Thursday, April 4th, according to the letter.
Seventh grade students will still take day two of the STAAR Writing assessment as scheduled on Wednesday, April 3rd, but will make up day one on Thursday, April 4th, the letter said.
“Thank you for your understanding and support — and for helping to keep our students motivated to excel on their tests the rest of this week,” said Chapa Middle School Principal Lisa Walls in the letter. “I have to comment them (the students) for their cooperation and good behavior during the situation. It’s not comfortable to be without air conditioning and to have to postpone a highly anticipated test, but they handled it all with maturity and good character.”
Students will receive free breakfast on Wednesday and Thursday, Walls said.
