Buda and Kyle experienced huge sales tax collections jumps this month compared to revenues they received in the same month last year, Texas Comptroller records show.
Buda collected $368,000 this month in sales tax allocations, up 24.19 percent from the $296,000 it received in November 2012. Last month, Buda only experienced a 5.07 percent growth from its October 2012 payment, according to comptroller records.
In 2013 payments-to-date, Buda has collected $3.739 million.
Kyle is barely edging out Buda in 2013 payments-to-date with $3.785 million collected thus far.
Kyle received $439,000 in sales tax collections this month, up 19.94 percent from the $366,000 it collected in the same month last year, comptroller records show. Last month, Kyle remained almost flat with its collections growth compared to the same month in 2012 seeing only a 0.81 percent upward change.
San Marcos has by far collected the largest portion of sales taxes compared to any other Hays County city. San Marcos received $1.9 million in sales tax revenues this month and has collected $21.42 million in 2013 payments-to-date, comptroller records show.
The comptroller’s office distributed $431.9 million in total sales tax revenues this month to Texas cities, up 6.8 percent from November 2012 totals. Texas counties received a total $41 million this month, experiencing a 2.4 percent increase from the same month last year.
Hays County’s portion of the $41 million pie was a $1.16 million slice, comptroller records show. November’s allocation marks a 13.51 percent increase from the $1.02 million the county received in the same month last year.
Hays County has received $12.17 million in 2013 payments-to-date.
For November, the comptroller’s office will send out $654.6 million in total sales tax allocations to Texas cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts, marking a 7.0 percent increase from the same month last year.
“Growth in sales tax revenues (statewide) was led by collections from the telecommunications sector,” Comptroller Susan Combs said in a statement. “The construction sector also showed significant gains.”
State sales tax revenue has increased for 43 consecutive months, Combs said.
