Buda, Kyle begin fiscal year with sales tax jumps

Though Kyle’s jump fell a little shorter than Buda’s, both cities experienced an increase in sales tax collections this month compared to their allocations during the same reporting period last year.


The Texas Comptroller’s Office returned $350,220 to Buda in sales tax revenues for October, marking a 5.07 percent increase from the $333,303 it received for the same month in 2012. 


Kyle received $306,735 in sales tax collection this month, enjoying a meager 0.81 percent increase from the $304,269 it received in Oct. 2012. 


In payments year-to-date, Buda and Kyle have exceeded previous receipts taking in $3.37 million and $3.35 million, respectively, from January through October of this year. During the same reporting period last year, Buda and Kyle had received $2.93 million and $3 million in sales tax collections, respectively. 


San Marcos overshadowed both Buda and Kyle in sales tax percentage growth this month, taking in $2.15 million in collections – a 7.33 percent increase from the $2 million it received in October 2012. 


San Marcos has received $19.53 million in sales tax revenue from January through October, up 8.52 percent from the same reporting period last year. 


The Comptroller’s Office returned $1.16 million in sales tax collections to Hays County this month, a 7.02 percent jump from the $1.09 million the county received in October 2012. So far this year, Hays County has taken in $11.01 million in sales tax collections.


Dripping Springs was the only Hays County city to bring in less revenue this month compared to October of last year, according to comptroller records. 


Dripping Springs received $107,168 in sales tax revenues this month, marking a 5.66 percent decrease from the $113,603 it received in October 2012. 


In sales tax collections this year-to-date, however, Dripping Springs has surpassed last year’s allocations by 9.74 percent. Dripping springs has received $1.13 million from Jan.uary through October this year. Last year, Dripping Springs brought in $1.03 million during the same reporting period. 


The sales tax figures represent monthly sales made in August.
