Six-time DWI offender sentenced to life in prison: Recently vowed to live a clean, sober life

 Staff report

Though she pledged during an interview in March to lead a clean, sober life after jail, Rose Ann Davidson, 44, of San Marcos was sentenced to life in prison after her sixth conviction for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Her trial took place in front of Judge Jack Robinson, according to a statement released by the Hays County District Attorney’s Office.

Davidson was in the Hays County Jail on a prior DWI when she spoke with the Hays Free Press about the conditions of the facility.

“Actually it’s like the Hilton compared to the other jails I’ve been to,” she said.

She indicated that wasn’t her first time in jail, but didn’t say how many times she had been locked up. The DA’s office said Davidson had five prior convictions for DWI dating back to 1996, though not all were in Hays County. She was released from the Hays County Jail in early July.

On July 27, a Kyle police officer pulled Davidson over on Interstate-35 in the early morning hours after he observed erratic driving, according to the release. The

officer arrested her for intoxication and a search of her vehicle turned up an open container of beer.

Back in the spring, Davidson said she probably had about six more months in the jail and was waiting for court procedures to be completed.

What will happen next?

“[I’ll] go lead a clean, sober life,” Davidson told the reporter at the time.

She also said she would “Be a better grandma.”

Davidson spoke of her own children, ages 25 and 26, whom she said did not visit her in the jail. There was a distinct tinge of regret in her voice.

“I’ve hurt them a lot telling them I was going to stop before and I haven’t stopped. And I know they’re hurt,” she said. “It’s going to be hard to get their trust back again.”
