Kyle woman facing life in prison after fight over meds

A Kyle woman is facing up to life in prison for the murder of a man who police say she stabbed during a domestic disturbance over missing medication.
Brenda Harris Morgan, 55, was arrested on Aug. 14 on a murder indictment charge – 15 months after a Hays County Grand Jury indicted her, according to court records.
Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett said Morgan was being held at the Costal Bend Detention Facility near Corpus Christi on federal drug charges. He said a “hold,” or detainer, had been placed on her for Hays County until she was released by the feds.
During the course of a January 18, 2012, argument over missing medication, Morgan allegedly stabbed Donald Blaha, 50, over the heart, just to the left side of his body, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Morgan told police Blaha “pushed her on the bed and tried to strangle her” during their altercation, adding that Blaha swung a knife at her, prompting her to grab another knife and stab him, the affidavit said.
At about 6:34 a.m. on Jan. 18, 2012, a witness called police and said that Blaha had his hands up in the air when Morgan stabbed him outside their camper and the victim was lying on the ground in between a white truck and a dark blue van, the affidavit said.
At about the same time, Morgan called 911 and advised the emergency dispatchers that a man outside of their camper, located at the Plum Creek Campground in Kyle, “tried to kill her,” according to the affidavit. Morgan told dispatchers Blaha “tried to choke her and she had to defend herself.”
