STAP offers assistance seminar for seniors

Representatives from Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services under the service program STAP will be at Onion Creek Senior Citizens Center on Thursday, August 22 at 11:30 a.m. to give information on free telephones and emergency buttons. To qualify for the free phones, you must live in Texas, have proof of residency and must have one of the qualifying conditions: hard of hearing or deaf; vision impaired or blind; mobility impaired; cognitive impaired or speech difficulties. For proof of residency, bring drivers license, utility bill, voter’s registration or Texas ID. Also on the same date, the folks from STAP will have the previously ordered telephones for the members of OCSC. Please remember to bring your voucher redemption card.


It’s time for the annual Buda Vocational Agriculture Booster Club dinner and dance at the Painted Horse Pavilion on Saturday, August 24 from 6 p.m. until midnight. There will BBQ dinners, silent and live auctions and boot scooting to the music of the Sam Bentley Band. This event is open to the public and tickets are available at the door. It’s not a secret anymore ... there was a surprise birthday party last Saturday afternoon for friends and family of Joy (Felps) Simmons. The event at Manchaca Baptist Church was in celebration of Joy’s 70th birthday. Birthday wishes go out to Michael Fry and Jean Holbrook on August 16; Pat Nixon on August 17; Audrey Burns, Ray Conley and John Kinnett on August 18; Melayne Montgomery Marchese and Margaret Zander on August 19; and Jim Morgan on August 21.

The Journey United Methodist Church that was previously meeting at Painted Horse has now found a new home at 5151 Industrial Way Drive which is on the east side of IH 35. Services start at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday and visitors are always welcome.
