A 4-2 mark over six games helped the Lady Rebel basketball team claim second place at the Southside Tournament in San Antonio over the past weekend.

Hays went 3-1 in their first four contests, including a close 62-60 overtime win over Navarro. Hays reached the tournament finals after defeating San Antonio Southside 53-35 in the semifinals. In the finals, they fell to San Antonio Jay 45-31.
Senior Jill Borreson and sophomore Amanda Benjamin were tabbed as All-Tournament Selections. Borreson averaged a double-double during the tournament with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Amanda Benjamin averaged eight points per game and three steals.
Head coach Danny Preuss saw his younger players gain experience, with the team continuing to learn about each other.
“[Six] games gives you a chance to work on every aspect of the game,” Preuss said. “We are getting a little better every time we hit the floor.”
Hays will play in the Floresville Tournament from Nov. 21-23.
