Milestones

Army Pvt. Dillon L. Gunter graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is a 2011 graduate of Binger-Oney High School.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Gunter is the stepson of Terry Weeter of Driftwood.


Air Force Airman Rufino J. Coronado graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Coronado, the son of Rufino and Elvia Coronado of Kyle, is a 2008 graduate of Lehman High School.


Molly Birnbaum of Kyle, Texas, graduated Spring 2013 with a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas.
Samantha Perry, a resident of Driftwood and a first year at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, is listed on the honor roll with distinction. To be listed on the SMU honor roll with distinction, students must be in the top 10 percent of their school of record. SMU’s Spring 2013 enrollment included 10,541students.


Catherine Rose of Kyle was named to the dean’s list at Olivet Nazarene University during the recently completed spring 2013 semester. To qualify for inclusion on the dean’s list, a student must have been enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and must have attained a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale.


Joshua Cabrera from Buda, TX was named to the Spring 2013 Dean’s List at Wake Forest University. Students who achieve a 3.4 and no grade below a C were named to the list.


Chase Stein of Mountain City, TX, has announced an intent to begin studies at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fla., in fall 2013. Stein graduated from Jack C. Hays High School and plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering.


Kelsey Ambrose of Buda graduated from Schreiner University and received a diploma during commencement ceremonies held in Dietert Auditorium on May 11, 2013. Kelsey Ambrose, daughter of John and Rhonda Ambrose, was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sport Management.
