CTMC Gala coming up soon
The deadline is fast approaching to buy tickets for Central Texas Medical Center’s 21st annual Stars of Texas Gala. This year’s event will honor local philanthropist Miriam McCoy and her late husband, Emmett, along with their children. lucky winner of the silent auction will receive two tickets and hotel accommodations to George Strait’s final concert in Dallas as part of his “Cowboy Rides Away” tour. The Stars of Texas Gala takes place Oct. 13 at Embassy Suites Hotel, Spa & Conference Center in San Marcos. Other prizes and silent auction items will also be available. The deadline to buy tickets is Friday, Oct. 4, and proceeds from the event will benefit CTMC expanding surgical services.
Health Fair offers free, low-cost health screenings, flu shots and family fun
Get answers to your medical questions and take advantage of free and low-cost health screenings Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Seton Medical Center Hays Health Fair. The annual event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the hospital, 6001 Kyle Parkway, just east of Interstate 35. You will find more than 40 booths with experts, food and giveaways on site. Blood pressure and body mass index screenings will be offered, and flu shots will be provided by Walgreens for a minimal fee. Plus, Seton Hays doctors, nurses and a variety of other experts will be on hand with information to address your concerns. The fair will include activities for all ages. “Andy the Ambulance,” a talking robot, courtesy of San Marcos/Hays County Emergency Medical Services, will teach kids how and when to dial 9-1-1. Adults can receive a heart healthy CT scan at a discounted price of $49. Free massages and the latest information on home health care, personal fitness, diet, nutrition and smoking cessation will also be available. Entries solicited for San Marcos Veterans Day Parade
Honoring All Who Served will be the theme of the 2013 Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 9, sponsored by the City of San Marcos with assistance from the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee and local veterans organizations. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and wind through downtown San Marcos. A free biscuit and gravy breakfast will be served on the Hays County Courthouse lawn beginning at 8:30 a.m., and there will be entertainment leading up to the parade. Veterans groups, military organizations, civic clubs, bands, drill teams, public officials, equestrians, youth teams, classic vehicles and others are invited to join the parade. The deadline for entering is Oct. 18. Applications are posted at www.sanmarcostx.gov/parks. Area individuals, educational institutions, businesses and organizations are invited.
