Don’t throw stones

About a month ago I read a disturbing letter to the editor concerning the Pct 2 Constable’s office. The letter was in reference to Pct. 2 Deputy Constable Mitchell Johnson for backing up Buda Police on a stop for two people walking down a street on the east side of IH 35 both carrying rifles. The writer Gary Griffin, a non-paid reserve deputy constable in Wimberley, stated the Constables in Pct 2 were not trained and just basically stupid and didn’t know what they were doing when it comes to the law.

There is no law that says you can’t carry a rifle in the County. Mitchell Johnson, according to TCLEOSE (the governing body for certification of peace officers in Texas) lists Johnson as a “Master Peace Officer” since 2001. He has been a peace officer for approx. 26 yrs. James Blanton, Pct. 2 Dep. Constable has a Master Peace Officers license from TCLEOSE and has over 22 yrs. of service.Mark Hanna, Chief Dep. Pct. 2 has 29 years of service and has been a Master Peace Officer and the Constable Kohler has been a constable for over 35 yrs. The State of Texas grandfathered him and a lot of other peace officers in to TCLEOSE certification because of the length of time they served.

Now we come to the complainer, Gary Griffin, who has had a peace officers license for about 20 years and several different jobs in that time. He was involved in a lawsuit in Travis Co. for wrongful termination of a female deputy who worked for him in Pct 3 Travis Co who filed a sexual discrimination lawsuit. In 2012 she was offer $100,000 and turned it down. Griffin also oversaw the Deputy Constable in Travis Co. that tasered a 71 yr. old grandmother. I think he needs to get his ducks in a row before lashing out at anybody else. Are you planning on making a run for the Constables office in Hays Co. because you are trying to discredit those that serve us honorably.
